Danny Bushart

My work is inspired by the islands of Hawaii and influenced by the Art Nouveau jewelry of a century ago. I love incorporating the graceful and feminine lines of that era into my Hawaiian floral jewelry. I enjoy designing linked necklaces with patterns that repeat allowing the harmonious line to flow throughout the piece.

Inspiration can take hold at any moment: hiking through the jungle here on Maui or working in our tropical flower garden. When an idea comes, I reach for my sketchbook to capture it.  Once back in my studio, using dental tools and an alcohol lamp, I begin to create my wax model. I heat the tool in the flame of the lamp, touch it to some wax to collect a small drop then draw it out on a thin sheet of wax. It’s similar to dipping a fountain pen into an ink well to write. I build up then carve back down the wax until the design is completed. This process can take up to a month. I then create the piece using the ancient method of the lost wax process.

My offering includes nine Hawaiian flower-inspired designs: The Plumeria Nouveau, Plumeria Lei, Maile Leaf, Trumpet Flower, Trumpet Flower Fleur Di Lis, Hibiscus, Hibiscus Fairy, Rose and Wildflower. Each flower collection includes variations of: earrings, bracelets, pendants and necklaces, all capturing the essence of Hawaii’s exquisite natural landscape, created in 925 Sterling Silver, accented with semi-precious gemstones and freshwater pearls.  I create my jewelry thinking of not only the flower I am designing but also as an accent piece to enhance the wearer. Each collection is classic, timeless, elegant and wearable. I hope very much that you will treasure your heirloom quality jewelry for generations to come.
